The Dash 8 was developed in the early 80's by de Havilland Canada. Being a commuter aircraft it offers 39-78 seats. The Dash is powered by two eco-friendly but powerful turboprop engines, the high-wing design allows the use of large and therefore slow-going 4- or 6-blade propellers with low noise emission. If one power source drops out, the other can immediately call up 10% increased efficiency.
From 1996 the Dash got from Bombardier, its new manufacturer, an active noise and vibration insulation in order to equate it with jet passenger aircraft. Also the generous cabin space corresponds to the jet comfort of a B737. Having overcome interim landing gear problems the Dash is now considered particularly safe. The Dash flight is pure pleasure because of the propeller propulsion: the noise and view of the enormous propeller blades spiraling through the air produces a genuine "I fly" feeling.
