With the Boeing 747 began in the 70s a new era in aviation history. Even today, the silhouette of the '747' is unique, at the time of its development it was by far the largest passenger aircraft in the world. It started its first flight in 1969 and has since become one of the best known and most widely used aircraft in the world. The classical crew at that time included captain, copilot and flight engineer, the 'technical conscience' of all the multiple redundant operating systems.
The plane is still in evolutionary development. The cockpit of 'the Jumbo', as the big ship has been dubbed affectionately, is still located in an almost dizzying height. But today's B747-400 cockpit is only staffed by two pilots who work in a modern screen-dominated environment. The current version Boeing B747-800, which is about 5.80 m longer and more powerful, represents the latest leap into the future of this aurcraft.
